Overview
Rippling HR is the core HRIS module of Rippling's unified workforce platform, which combines HR, IT and finance on a single employee data model. Founded in 2016 by Parker Conrad and Prasanna Sankar, Rippling centralizes employee records, onboarding, org charts and HR workflows so that a single data change -- a promotion, a department move, a new hire -- propagates automatically to permissions, payroll, benefits and device access without re-entry across separate systems.
The product covers document management with e-signature collection, role-based field-level permissions, an AI workflow assistant that can execute multi-step HR actions (new hires, manager changes, leave requests) with a review-before-apply step, and automated compliance monitoring across all 50 U.S. states and 180+ countries, including real-time break and labor-law violation alerts. A global HR layer localizes fields, documents and currencies to each employee's work location, and additional modules -- recruiting, performance management, learning, headcount planning, compensation bands and PEO service -- sit on the same record.
Rippling is aimed at growing companies and mid-market organizations that want a single HRIS tied directly into IT (device and identity management) and finance rather than a standalone HR tool stitched to payroll and IT systems separately. The core Rippling platform is required, with HR, IT and finance products purchased as separate per-employee add-on modules.

Strengths & considerations
Strengths
- HR data lives on the same platform as IT (device/app provisioning) and payroll/finance, so employee changes propagate automatically without re-entry
- AI workflow assistant can execute multi-step HR actions (hires, promotions, leave requests) conversationally with a review-before-apply step
- Compliance monitoring spans all 50 U.S. states and 180+ countries from a single system
- No-code custom reporting across both native HR data and connected third-party apps
Considerations
- Full functionality (payroll, benefits, IT) requires purchasing separate modules on top of the core platform, so total capability and cost depend on which modules are enabled
- Pricing beyond the required base platform is quote-based rather than fully published
