Our take

This one is decided by what you build. Buildertrend is purpose-built for residential — selections, change orders, client portals, WIP reporting for homebuilders and remodelers. Procore is commercial-grade construction management — takeoffs, estimating databases, RFIs/submittals, subcontractor prequalification — priced on annual construction volume with unlimited users. Residential firms on Procore pay for depth they won't use; commercial GCs on Buildertrend outgrow it.

Choose Buildertrend if…

  • Residential or remodel work — selections and client-facing portals are the daily workflow
  • Small-to-mid firm where per-seat simplicity beats volume-based contracts

Choose Procore if…

  • Commercial projects with RFIs, submittals and sub prequalification as core process
  • Many field users — unlimited seats under ACV pricing changes the economics
  • Estimating from a cost database and digital takeoff, not proposal templates

Where they differ

The 30 capabilities (of 55 in the construction taxonomy) where the evidence separates them, biggest gaps first. “Not evidenced” means our research found no public documentation of this capability — the vendor may still offer it. Confirm on a demo.
