Overview

LearnUpon is a cloud-based learning management system (LMS) used to train employees, customers and partners from a single account. Its distinguishing feature is Learning Portals: multiple branded, permission-separated learning environments for different audiences (e.g. internal staff vs. external customers) run from one underlying platform and reporting layer, rather than separate LMS instances. The company, founded in 2012 and headquartered in Dublin, Ireland, says it serves over 1,500-1,700 organisations and more than 31 million learners.

The platform is organised around three product lines - LearnUpon for Employees, LearnUpon for Customer Education, and LearnUpon for Associations - covering onboarding, compliance and skills training, customer and partner enablement, and member/certification programs respectively. Recent releases have added an 'agentic' AI layer (branded LearnUpon IQ) on top of the core LMS: AI-assisted course authoring (Create+), a learner-facing chatbot (Ask Lia), automatic content-to-skill mapping, and an MCP server that lets external AI assistants query LearnUpon data.

For ERP-adjacent buyers, LearnUpon's relevance is mainly on the HR/HCM side: it lists a native SAP SuccessFactors connector alongside HRIS integrations for ADP Workforce Now, BambooHR, Paycor, Paylocity, Gusto and Dayforce, plus SSO, CRM, webinar, e-commerce and content-marketplace connectors. It does not publish a direct connector to a general-ledger or financials ERP.

  • Selling paid courses or certifications directly to external learners via e-commerce checkout
  • Consolidating multiple audience-specific training programs onto one reporting platform

Strengths & considerations

Strengths

  • Multi-portal architecture lets one account run separate branded LMS instances for employees, customers, partners or members with shared back-end reporting
  • Native SAP SuccessFactors connector plus a broad HRIS integration list (ADP, BambooHR, Paycor, Paylocity, Gusto, Dayforce)
  • Built-in e-commerce checkout (Shopify, Stripe, PayPal) for monetising external/customer-facing courses, which many pure employee-LMS vendors lack
  • Recently added an AI agent layer (LearnUpon IQ, Create+, Ask Lia, MCP server) on top of a mature core LMS rather than being AI-native from the start

What is a LearnUpon 'Learning Portal'?

A Learning Portal is a separately branded, permissioned learning environment run from a single LearnUpon account. Buyers use multiple portals to serve different audiences - for example employees, customers and channel partners - from one platform while keeping catalogues, branding and reporting separate.

How is LearnUpon priced?

Pricing is quote-based and not published. The three product lines carry minimum user counts (100 for Employees, 150 for Associations, 300 for Customer Education) and final cost is set by a sales consultation based on user volume and features selected.

Does LearnUpon connect to a general-ledger or financials ERP?

LearnUpon's vendor-documented integrations are concentrated on HRIS, CRM, SSO and e-commerce systems (including SAP SuccessFactors on the HR/HCM side). It does not publish a direct connector to a financials/GL ERP module.

Does LearnUpon support selling courses to external customers?

Yes. The Customer Education product line includes built-in e-commerce checkout via Shopify, Stripe or PayPal so organisations can charge for courses or certifications, plus white-labelling on its Enterprise tier.
