Overview
QuickBooks Time is a cloud-based employee time tracking, scheduling and workforce management app sold by Intuit as part of the QuickBooks product family. It began as TSheets, an independent time-tracking company founded in Eagle, Idaho in 2006, which Intuit acquired for roughly $340 million in a deal announced December 2017 and closed January 2018; Intuit rebranded the product QuickBooks Time in 2020.
The product covers digital timesheets, GPS-based mobile time tracking through the QuickBooks Workforce app, job/shift scheduling, PTO management, project time tracking with estimates-vs-actuals reporting, and a tablet-based Time Kiosk for shared clock-in stations. It is aimed at small and mid-sized businesses, particularly in field-service-heavy industries such as construction, landscaping, home healthcare, nonprofits, retail and restaurants, and includes features built to support DCAA/DOL-compliant time tracking for government contractors.
As an Intuit product, QuickBooks Time is built around QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop payroll and invoicing sync, and is also sold bundled into Intuit's QuickBooks Payroll (Workforce) plans. It connects to roughly 50 other accounting, payroll, HR and field-service apps through its App Marketplace, including several named partners such as ADP, Paychex, Justworks, Salesforce, Procore and Zapier.

Alternatives to QuickBooks Time in Time & Attendance
QuickBooks Time — frequently asked questions
Is QuickBooks Time the same product as TSheets?
Yes. TSheets was an independent time-tracking company founded in Eagle, Idaho in 2006 that Intuit acquired for about $340 million in a deal announced in December 2017 and closed in January 2018. Intuit rebranded the product QuickBooks Time in 2020.
Does QuickBooks Time require QuickBooks Online or Payroll?
No, it can be bought as a standalone Premium or Elite time-tracking plan. It also ships bundled inside Intuit's QuickBooks Payroll Workforce plans, and syncs natively with QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop when those are used alongside it.
What does the Elite plan add over Premium?
Elite adds geofencing (automatic clock-in/out reminders at job sites), mileage tracking, project estimates-vs-actuals reporting, and a project activity feed for sharing progress notes and photos, on top of everything in Premium.
Does QuickBooks Time track employee location outside of work hours?
No. QuickBooks Time only logs GPS location while an employee is clocked in; it does not store location data during off-clock hours, and geofence detection data stays on the device rather than being saved to QuickBooks servers.
What accounting and payroll systems does QuickBooks Time integrate with?
Beyond native QuickBooks Online/Desktop sync, Intuit documents an App Marketplace of 50+ integrations including payroll providers ADP, Paychex Flex, OnPay and Justworks, and project/field-service tools such as Procore, Knowify, Breezeworks and SimPRO.
