Overview

Greenstone is a sustainability and ESG data-management and reporting platform originally founded in 2006 in London as a carbon-accounting software business. It was acquired by Cority, a Toronto-based environmental-health-and-safety (EHS) software provider majority-owned by Thoma Bravo, in May 2023, and its capabilities have since been folded into Cority's Sustainability Cloud, part of the unified CorityOne platform.

The platform is built around guided data-collection workflows, configurable questionnaires and a maintained library of emission factors and reporting frameworks, used to calculate Scope 1, 2 and 3 greenhouse-gas emissions and to produce disclosures aligned to frameworks including CDP, GRI, SASB and TCFD. Distinct modules historically covered corporate sustainability performance management, supply-chain/Scope 3 supplier engagement (formerly branded SupplierPortal), and ESG data collection across investment portfolios for private-equity and asset-management firms (formerly branded InvestorPortal).

At the time of the Cority acquisition, Greenstone had roughly 51 employees and served over 75 customers across 106 countries and 15 industries, with offices in London and New York. Customers are being migrated onto Cority's CorityOne platform, which combines Greenstone's ESG/sustainability data model with Cority's existing EHS software into a single system.

Alternatives to Greenstone in ESG & Sustainability

Greenstone — frequently asked questions

Is Greenstone still a standalone product?

No. Cority acquired Greenstone in May 2023, and its sustainability and ESG data-collection capabilities have been folded into Cority's Sustainability Cloud, part of the unified CorityOne platform, alongside Cority's existing EHS software.

What emissions scopes does the platform cover?

The platform calculates Scope 1, 2 and 3 greenhouse gas emissions using a maintained library of emission factors, with consumption data tracked by site, fuel type and utility.

Which ESG reporting frameworks are supported?

Disclosure generation is aligned to frameworks including CDP, GRI, SASB and TCFD, with question libraries mapped across multiple standards to avoid duplicate data collection.

Who used Greenstone before the Cority acquisition?

At the time of the May 2023 acquisition, Greenstone had around 51 employees and served over 75 customers across 106 countries and 15 industries, from offices in London and New York, including corporates, suppliers and private-equity/asset-management firms via its InvestorPortal and SupplierPortal modules.
