Overview
Epicor Advanced MES is a manufacturing execution system, formerly known as Mattec (acquired by Epicor in 2012), built to connect machines on the shop floor and give plant managers real-time visibility into production. It automatically collects data from equipment and operators to monitor uptime and downtime, actual cycle times, and scrap, drawing on more than 20 years of domain experience originally rooted in the rubber, plastics, automotive, and metals industries.
The platform covers production monitoring, real-time scheduling, statistical process control and quality (SPC/SQC), predictive/preventive maintenance, energy monitoring, and automated alerts and escalation. Machine connectivity is handled through OPC, PLC, and Epicor's own edge-computing hardware (CF-MIU), with a web-enabled interface for mobile and tablet access on the shop floor.
Advanced MES runs as a configurable, largely out-of-the-box system alongside an ERP rather than as a bundled ERP module. Its Data Exchange component is a bi-directional import/export tool purpose-built to move production data between Advanced MES and ERP, MRP, and other business systems, reducing manual entry and keeping shop-floor and back-office data consistent.
