Southern Star Central Gas Pipeline

Energy & utilities (natural gas transmission)United StatesMid-Market

A highly customized on-premises system plus disparate point applications — timekeeping ran on a different program than payroll — with manual processes and Excel spreadsheets.Oracle Fusion Cloud ERP

Finance, supply chain, and HCM now run on one integrated platform: benefits, timekeeping, payroll, and learning sit in one HCM system, employees self-serve personal data changes that previously required calls and faxes to HR, and 400+ field employees file timecards and expenses by mobile app with manager approvals in-app or by email. Automated testing supports smooth quarterly updates, and an integrated barcoding system was added on top of Oracle.

Challenge: Southern Star's disparate systems, manual processes, and heavily customized on-premises platform could not support its growth plans, whether organic or by acquisition. Timekeeping and payroll ran on separate programs, and Excel-based workarounds were inefficient.

Solution: After reviewing multiple vendors, Southern Star chose Oracle Cloud with Capgemini as transformation partner, delivered via Capgemini's CloudNow methodology with three-week sprints and users testing in the system within weeks of development starting. The project deliberately reduced customization so quarterly updates can be applied easily, added automated testing, and ran change management through a dedicated change-ambassador group. Delivery shifted fully remote during the pandemic.

Results: Finance, supply chain, and HCM now run on one integrated platform: benefits, timekeeping, payroll, and learning sit in one HCM system, employees self-serve personal data changes that previously required calls and faxes to HR, and 400+ field employees file timecards and expenses by mobile app with manager approvals in-app or by email. Automated testing supports smooth quarterly updates, and an integrated barcoding system was added on top of Oracle.

Oracle was the right fit for us. It was not too big or overly complicated, and it was robust enough to allow for growth. We also wanted some standardization and best practices, and we felt like Oracle brought that to the table. And with the cloud, it was also bringing the newest technology.
Suzanne Gonzalez, Manager of Financial Planning & Analysis and former ERP Project Leader, Southern Star

Heathrow Airport

Aviation / travel infrastructureUnited KingdomEnterprise

Aging legacy Oracle systems with fixed, labour-intensive processes, data inaccuracies, and growing historic costs.Oracle Fusion Cloud ERP (replacing legacy Oracle systems)

Heathrow completed the largest business transformation in its 75-year history in January 2022: legacy infrastructure is being decommissioned for cost savings, automation has reduced back-office roles and manual tasks, mobile self-service lets frontline staff handle HR tasks in minutes, and BRM absorbed constant pandemic-era changes in airline and retailer billing arrangements.

Challenge: Heathrow's aging legacy Oracle back- and middle-office systems carried labour-intensive fixed processes, data inaccuracies, and rising costs, and could not support the airport's expansion plans, including a proposed third runway. The build phase then had to be delivered during COVID-19 lockdowns while terminals closed and staff were furloughed.

Solution: Under the Magenta Program, Capgemini and Oracle Consulting replaced all back- and middle-office systems with Oracle Fusion Cloud ERP, Oracle Fusion Cloud HCM, Oracle Integration Cloud, and Oracle Billing Revenue Management, retaining Oracle-to-Oracle continuity to ease adoption and migration. Capgemini delivered three finance workstreams (Projects to Retire, Record to Report, Source to Pay), the Service to Cash workstream, and all technical delivery, with teams working almost entirely remotely.

Results: Heathrow completed the largest business transformation in its 75-year history in January 2022: legacy infrastructure is being decommissioned for cost savings, automation has reduced back-office roles and manual tasks, mobile self-service lets frontline staff handle HR tasks in minutes, and BRM absorbed constant pandemic-era changes in airline and retailer billing arrangements.

Engaged in 2019; the Magenta Program completed in January 2022
Our program adjustments to the pandemic made our delivery twice as fast and efficient as we were before the pandemic began. Now we're in a strong position to realize the fantastic capabilities and benefits the new Oracle Cloud platform can provide.
Stephen Williams, Transformation Program Director, Heathrow
