Overview

RightSignature is an electronic signature service that lets organizations send documents for legally binding signature entirely online. Originally launched in 2009 as a standalone product, it was acquired by Citrix in 2014 and has since been consolidated into the ShareFile document management and collaboration platform, now owned by Progress Software. RightSignature signature workflows are delivered both through the standalone RightSignature interface and natively inside ShareFile, where files stored in a ShareFile account can be routed for signature without leaving the platform.

The product captures handwritten-style signatures rather than simple click-to-sign buttons, and every executed document produces a signature certificate with a timestamped audit log, identity authentication details, and IP capture. Signatures are designed to satisfy the enforceability requirements of the U.S. ESIGN Act and UETA. Senders can build reusable templates, apply merge fields, send documents in bulk, package multiple documents for sequential or parallel signing, and protect documents with passcodes or knowledge-based authentication (KBA).

Because RightSignature is now bundled into ShareFile plans, buyers evaluating it as a pure e-signature tool should understand that pricing, file storage, and many adjacent capabilities come as part of a broader ShareFile subscription rather than as an isolated signing product. It is positioned primarily at document-heavy professional services firms in accounting, finance, insurance, healthcare, and legal, where signature collection is one step in a larger client-document workflow.

Alternatives to RightSignature in eSignature

RightSignature — frequently asked questions

Is RightSignature still sold as a standalone product?

No. RightSignature has been consolidated into the ShareFile platform. Its e-signature technology is delivered through ShareFile plans and the RightSignature interface rather than as an independent subscription.

Are RightSignature signatures legally binding?

Signatures are designed to meet the enforceability requirements of the U.S. ESIGN Act and UETA. Each executed document produces a signature certificate with a timestamped audit log and identity authentication details.

What security certifications does the platform hold?

ShareFile, which now delivers RightSignature, lists SOC 2 Type 2 and ISO 27001 certifications. It is also built with HIPAA, SEC and FINRA regulations in mind, though those are design alignments rather than certifications.

Does RightSignature offer an API?

Yes. It provides a REST-based public API to prepare documents and forms, share documents and templates for signature, and send reminders. API access requires a ShareFile Premium or Industry Advantage plan and an API key.

What file types and sizes are supported?

PDF, Microsoft Word, plain text and rich text files are supported, up to 2000 pages and under 20 MB. PDFs with fillable fields or 3D elements must be flattened before uploading.
