Overview
Heartland Retail is a cloud-based point-of-sale and retail management platform aimed at independent and growing multi-location retailers, including franchises with complex item catalogues such as apparel, footwear and accessories. It was originally built as Springboard Retail; Heartland (now operating as Global Payments) acquired and rebranded it as Heartland Retail, and the company's own materials describe it as having grown to serve over 2,500 merchants as their point-of-sale partner.
The platform runs on iPad, Android tablets, Mac and PC and centralises inventory, purchasing, customer data and reporting across in-store, online and mobile selling channels. Inventory tools cover real-time stock updates, transfers between locations, purchase-order creation from a tablet, and import tooling for migrating item, customer, gift-card and open-PO data from a previous POS. Omnichannel features sync inventory and orders with connected ecommerce storefronts and support buy-online/pick-up-or-return-in-store workflows.
Heartland Retail integrates with QuickBooks Online for automated journal-entry posting of POS financial events, and lists integrations across ecommerce (BigCommerce, Shopify, Magento, WooCommerce), inventory planning (Management One), and marketing/loyalty (Mailchimp, Klaviyo) among a published set of 75+ point-of-sale integrations. Payment processing is built into the POS and is priced separately from the software subscription.

Strengths & considerations
Strengths
- Built by a payments company (Global Payments/Heartland), so POS software and card processing are sold and supported by one provider with a published in-person processing rate
- Rebranded from Springboard Retail, a platform purpose-built for independent and growing multi-location retailers, distinct from Heartland's separate restaurant-focused POS line
- Direct QuickBooks Online integration that auto-generates journal entries from eight categories of POS financial events without a third-party middleware connector
- Published marketplace of 75+ third-party integrations spanning inventory planning, loyalty, ecommerce and accounting, plus an open developer API
Considerations
- Published pricing covers only the single-station entry rate ($89/mo); multi-station and enterprise pricing is quote-based
- No native NetSuite, Sage Intacct or Xero accounting connector is documented; QuickBooks Online is the only published direct accounting integration
