What is SAP Business ByDesign?
SAP Business ByDesign is a multi-tenant, cloud-based (SaaS) ERP from SAP built for small and mid-sized enterprises, spanning finance, supply chain, projects, CRM and HR out of the box. It's sold almost exclusively through SAP's partner and reseller network rather than direct from SAP. In September 2025 SAP announced it will delist ByDesign for new customers from April 20, 2026 — existing customers keep the same support, compliance and maintenance service, with no announced end date.

SAP Business ByDesign End of Life: What You Need to Know
SAP Business ByDesign is being delisted from the SAP price list for new customers effective April 20, 2026 — a change SAP announced in September 2025. Importantly, this is a new-sales delisting, not a hard end-of-life cutoff. SAP has stated there is no planned end date for Business ByDesign maintenance, and existing customers will see no change to their support, compliance, or maintenance services.
In practical terms: after April 20, 2026 SAP will stop signing up new ByDesign customers, but if you already run ByDesign your system keeps receiving the same security, compliance and legal updates it does today, with no announced maintenance cut-off. That said, a product SAP no longer sells to new customers is one whose long-term roadmap investment becomes harder to predict. Existing customers are not being forced off and support continues, but many will still choose to evaluate their options — which is what the rest of this guide covers. SAP Business ByDesign was first launched in 2007 at a time when Cloud enterprise resource planning (ERP) was a very new concept. ByDesign came to market hailed as one of the most complete Cloud ERP solutions available. It is the first true Cloud or software as a service solution from Germany software giant, SAP. The product has experienced many ups and downs over that time, primarily the fact that it has been poorly marketed by SAP. Regardless of that, it remains a strong performer in the SAP product ecosystem and continues to receive strong investment.
As a Cloud ERP solution, SAP Business ByDesign continues to receive quarterly upgrades which are pushed out to customers automatically, the product continues to receive considerable new functionality every quarter, including new innovations around machine learning & artificial intelligence, small user interface changes, brand new functionality and accounting and compliance updates.
ByDesign is one of two ERP solution from SAP that have been specifically designed for SMB & SME organisations, the other being SAP Business One. Both products are generally sold by SAP value added resellers (VAR's), rather than by SAP themselves.
