SAP Business ByDesign Field Service FAQ

Does ByDesign have a dedicated field service module, or is it built from CRM/support features?

It's assembled from case management and service order processing rather than a purpose-built field service suite — service orders, confirmations, and quotes are supported, but field service is rated basic. Companies with heavy dispatch, scheduling, or mobile technician needs typically look outside ByDesign for that piece.

Can a service call be quoted before work starts?

Yes — service quotes can be raised and converted into a service order once approved, so pricing is agreed before a technician is dispatched rather than billed after the fact.

Are service and repair transactions tracked across company entities?

Yes, intercompany field service and repair supports scenarios where one legal entity performs service work on behalf of another, with the cross-entity billing handled in the background.

Does field service connect to inventory for parts used on a job?

Service order processing draws on the same inventory data as the rest of ByDesign, so parts consumed on a service job reduce stock and post cost in the same transaction — there's no separate parts-inventory system to reconcile.
